Southeastern Illinois College has a long history of providing accessible and affordable higher education to citizens of its district, and a bridge either directly to a career, or in preparation for transfer.

Those were the types of results Shawna Browning of Carmi expected – a stepping stone to a four-year institution and then a solid career in a computer science field. Along the way, though, Browning – a Spring 2013 graduate with honors – has sought out the full community college experience – with opportunities for personal growth, expanded horizons, service, and learning both in and out of the classroom.

Browning’s time at SIC actually began before her high school career ended, as she took some college courses during her summer breaks.

Fairfield (IL) Memorial Hospital has hired Kathy Clayton as the new Chief Financial Officer.  Clayton comes to Fairfield with 28 years of experience from a Critical Access Hospital facility at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN.

“After 28 years in the same facility, I was ready for a change with new challenges.  I enjoy the hospitality of a small community and when I saw this opportunity present itself, I knew it would be the perfect place to transition to,” Clayton said.

Clayton has worked in many business areas of a hospital and began her career in Admitting, transferred to the Business Office, promoted to Staff Accountant, and continued to professionally advance to the Chief Financial Officer position.  During her tenure as part of the administrative team at Perry County Memorial Hospital, FMH says she assisted in planning a new $50 million hospital and lead the finalization of a $40 million loan for the facility.

Bryant and Mary Jeffers of Mt. Carmel had a profitable day.  The couple won the grand prize of $100,000 at Thursday’s final "key ceremony" for the 2013 Easter Seals Home Run Sweeps ALL CA$H Raffle.

The two say they have been entering Easter Seals raffles since 1992, when their grandson, Beau Singer, was the local Easter Seals Child Representative.  Bryant Jeffers indicated that he purchased the couple’s $100 ticket early in this year’s sales period, which proved to be a lucky move, even though his wife urged him to wait until closer to the deadline.
