Crossville man hurt after short high speed chase | News
A Crossville man is in the hospital after crashing his Jeep during a brief high speed chase in White County early Thursday morning.
Sheirff Doug Maier says White County dispatch received a call about 1 a.m. from someone who stated there were six subjects in the area of 800 West Main Street in Crossville and two of them were screaming to call police. The caller told the dispatcher that he overheard one of the women on scene had drawn a weapon.
Deputies and Illinois State Police were joined by two units from the Carmi Police Department and once on scene, they saw a black Jeep Cherokee driven by 29-year-old Luke Burnett leaving the area through a field behind his home.
Deputies say Burnett narrowly missed a sheriff's car as he drove onto County Road 1600E. He went about a half mile at high speed before he lost control, overturned in a ditch and crashed into a utility pole, breaking it.
Burnett was taken to an Evansville hospital and is expected to face numerous charges.
The other individuals involved were not located and no gun was discovered.
