Road crew member hurt in Southern IL accident

A McLeansboro man working on a road crew was struck by a semi Tuesday morning near West Salem in Edwards County.

Illinois State Police say a preliminary investigation shows the driver of the 2009 International Semi Tractor Trailer, Earl W. Gosnell, of Knoxville, TN, was traveling southbound just north of Bone Gap Road in a construction zone.   The worker, Larry W. Biggerstaff, 56, of McLeansboro,  was struck by the Gosnell’s vehicle.

Biggerstaff was transported by Air-Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.  He is in fair condition. Gosnell was not injured.

The Illinois State Police was assisted at the scene by the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department, Edwards County Ambulance Service, and Air-Evac.
