Double murder suspect spends day in court | News
WHITE CO, IL (WFIE)- Wednesday was a day in court for double murder suspect Danny Coston.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier says this is probably the most high profile case his office has seen.
"Lot of the information, facts of the case came out today and I think that's probably good. There's been a lot of speculation and this may put some of that to rest. I think now we have a pretty good idea what happened out there," said White County Sheriff Doug Maier.
Maier was the only one to testify this morning.
State's Attorney T. Scott Webb says that testimony had to do with physical evidence and a videotaped confession from Danny Coston.
"Listening to what he said he done is the hardest part," said Harold Wheeler, Jacob Wheeler's father. "Danny went down where them kids were fishing at told him he got his truck and boat hung up and asked Jake to go pull it out. He said Jake refused, which that's a lie because that boy would have helped anybody. So, he gave him a ride home. That's when he killed Jake and then took her down behind the house, had his way with her, and killed her, pleading for her life."
Since this investigation began, it's kept Sheriff Maier's office busy. Their work is still not over.
"It's less stressful now, obviously, that we feel like we understand what happened and we have someone in custody, but yeah, I've still got two extra guys working today. Have been every day since. There's just a lot of detail we now have to get put together to make sure that we can bring justice to this case," Maier said.
Arraignment for Danny Coston is set for a week from today.
Jacob Wheeler's family says a car wash will be held this Saturday to help pay for funeral expenses. It will be at the S & E car lot on Oak Street in Carmi beginning at 8 a.m.
