MT. CARMEL, IL (WFIE)- A man was hit by a train Friday in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
Mt. Carmel Police says the man was struck by a train near the South Walnut Street railroad crossing at the entrance of Mt Carmel as you enter from Indiana.
When officers arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m., they saw 31-year-old Kevin G. Baize II lying on the south side of the railroad tracks.
The Mt. Carmel police chief tells 14 News the victim was walking on the tracks near the Wabash River and the train crew blew a warning whistle but the man didn't react.
Officials say the crew of the Norfolk Southern Train hit the emergency brakes but couldn't stop in time.
Baize was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital. His condition has not been released.
