WHITE CO, IL (WFIE)- A White County, Illinois corrections officer has been placed on leave after accusations of sexual abuse involving a child.

According to White County Sheriff Doug Maier, a complaint was filed against Phillip L. Lowrey, who has been employed at the jail since April.

Maier says the complaint was made by the father of a minor female child, involving an allegation of sexual abuse.

Sheriff Maier determined the matter needed to be investigated by an outside agency, and contacted Illinois State Police.

Lowrey turned himself in to the White County Sheriff's Office. He faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Lowrey was taken to jail on a $10,000 cash bond which he posted and was released.
