Former corrections officer accused of sexual abuse of minor

WABASH CO, IL (WFIE)- A former correctional officer is now in the Wabash County Jail, charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

23-year-old Timothy Doerr, of Mount Carmel, is accused of a sexual act with a victim between the ages of 13 and 17.

Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard says Doer began working at the Gibson County Jail about six months ago.

He says there were no problems, and Doer was even recommended by his previous employer at the Henderson County Jail.

Sheriff Ballard says last week, he found out Doerr had worked at the Wabash County Jail in 2009, where he says there was an incident concerning inappropriate contact with a visitor.

Sheriff Ballard says he suspended Doerr and then fired him once he found out about these new charges in Wabash county.  the Wabash county state's attorney says Doerr was in court Wednesday morning, and was appointed at public defender.

He's in the Wabash County Jail with a $5,000 cash bond.

His next court date is July 30th.
