Lawmakers consider New Harmony Bridge options | News

The New Harmony Bridge remains closed as Indiana and Illinois legislators look for ways to pay for millions of dollars in repairs.

Legislators are considering a plan to dissolve the private White County Bridge Commission and turn the facility’s management over to a new commission with representatives from both states.

They’re hoping that could lead to grants and other financial help from the state and federal governments.  The bridge was suddenly shut down last week, with inspectors claiming it was unsafe. 

The needed repairs are expected to cost around $8 million.
