Six now reported dead in southern Illinois tornado

State emergency management officials have revised the death toll from Wednesday morning's tornado.  They now say six people are dead.  Earlier reports had indicated ten were killed.

An estimated 100 are injured and between 250 to 300 houses are damaged or destroyed and an estimated 25 business are destroyed or damaged.

At this time site seers are asked to stay away from the City of Harrisburg. Numerous power lines are down and gas lines leaking.

Several streets are blocked and residents should treat all power lines as still being energized.

The National Weather Service is enroute to investigate the tornado damage and will he here later this morning.

Saline County EMA asks sightseers to stay away from the City of Harrisburg.

Donations may be made to the Red Cross at the First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.  Do not call 9-1-1 or the dispatch center to report power line outages, but contact Ameren Illinois direct.

Ameren Illinois doesn’t have a time of when power will be restored.
