Mixed bag of unemployment news in southern IL | News
Unemployment fell in 8 of 21 counties in Southern Illinois compared to one year ago. The data is not seasonally adjusted.
Construction employment opportunities continued with on-going road and commercial projects. Seasonal employment increases were reported in Leisure-Hospitality, Wholesale Trade, and Professional-Business Services. Employment gains were also reported in Transportation and Health Care Services. Government payrolls continued to decline.
Employment opportunities were available in Health Care and Medical Support, Sales, Food Service, Transportation, Office and Administrative Support, and Computer Operations. Job openings also were available in Engineering, Production Occupations, and Building and Grounds Maintenance. Seasonal employment opportunities occurred in Construction and Leisure-Hospitality.
The unemployment rate identifies those who are out of work and seeking employment. A person who exhausts benefits, or is ineligible, still will be reflected in the unemployment rate if they actively seek work.
