Annual coin show returns to Fairfield

The 42nd annual Fairfield Coin Club show will be held Sunday, Oct. 14 at North Side Grade School in Fairfield.

Twenty dealers from around the region will be set up with all types of collectible coins and related material.

Doors open at 9 a.m. and the show is open until 4.  Admission is free.  Lunch will be available beginning at 10 a.m.

Motorcycle riding course in Mt. Carmel

Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Wabash Valley Community College have partnered to provide free motorcycle rider training courses in the Mt. Carmel area. They are currently accepting registrations for a Motorcycle Rider Course to be held the weekend of September 14, 15, & 16. This course is designed for riders with little to no experience and are wanting to become properly licensed.

Courses are open to Illinois residents who are at least 16 years of age and hold a valid automobile license and/or permit.

Bass tournament benefits youth hunting and fishing programs

The Illinois Conservation Foundation invites anglers to Rend Lake on Oct. 6 for the 7th annual Chad Morgenthaler Benefit Bass Tournament, benefitting ICF youth fishing and hunting programs.

The event is hosted annually by professional bass angler Chad Morgenthaler and title sponsor Jasper Engines at Rend Lake fishery.  

In addition to the fishing tournament on Oct. 6, there will be a dinner on Friday night, Oct. 5 at the Rend Lake Resort featuring a silent auction with prizes including boat accessories, fishing gear, firearms and archery equipment.

The Village of Old Shawneetown celebrated its annual Motorcycle Street Rally July 19-21.  Captain Morrie Fraser, Illinois State Police District 19 Commander, would like to recognize ISP Troopers from District 12, District 13, District 19, District 22, ISP Zone 7 Investigations, Shawneetown Police Department, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, Ridgway Police Department, and the Saline and Gallatin County ESDA Units, for assisting the Village of Old Shawneetown during this event.  Troopers assigned to the Rally were present to preserve the safety and property of those in attendan

Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation will be holding its Eighth Annual Golf Scramble on Friday, August 10, to raise funds to help support the services, programs, and state-of-the-art medical equipment needs of the hospital.

The event is being held at the Wayne County Golf Course and tee times are still available. 

Entry fee for a four person team is $200, which includes a gift, continental breakfast, and a delicious lunch.

West Salem celebrations, fireworks still on

West Salem's Independence Day festivities are still on according to city officials.

It all starts with a 5k run Saturday morning, followed by town wide yard sales.  There will be fireworks at dusk on Saturday at the ballpark.

On Sunday, there will be a city-wide worship service on the square followed by a car show.
