Eldorado wins SE Illinois Ag Mechanics Competition | Events
Vocational-technical students from a number of local high schools in southeastern Illinois competed recently in the areas of carpentry, surveying, electricity, and ag power. Southeastern Illinois College once again served as host of the Annual FFA Section 25 Ag Mechanics Competition.
Nine schools, including Eldorado, Galatia, Gallatin County, Hamilton County, Harrisburg, Joppa, Massac County, Pope County and Vienna spent a day on SIC’s campus testing their mechanical skills and learning about careers in agriculture. Ellen Midgley, technical sales representative for Lincoln Electric, delivered the keynote program following lunch and the completion of contests.
First place overall team award went to Eldorado High School.
Pope County High School came in second place followed by Hamilton County High School in third.
Individual award winners in Ag Power were Travis Horton, Harrisburg, first place; Corey Heberer, Gallatin County, second place; and Andrew Heath, Gallatin County, and Alex Ross, Vienna, tied for third.
Winners in the Carpentry category were Dustin McGuire, Eldorado, first place; Gavin Blankin, Joppa, second place; and Ethan Prather, Harrisburg, third place.
In Electricity, winners were Devin Rulemacker, Hamilton County, first place; Tyler Thompson, Pope County, second place; and Nick Volkening, Galatia, third place.
Winners in Surveying were Reece Ellerbusch, Massac County, first place; Clint Gwaltney, Hamilton County, second place; and Holly McCarver, Joppa, third place.
In Welding, winners were Colby Adams, Pope County, first place; Chad Flannigan, Hamilton County, second place; and Cody Vicker, Pope County, third place.
