A 74-year-old former director of a Fairfield senior citizens center is free on bond after being charged with stealing $44,000 from the facility’s bank account.

Deloris I. "Dee" Harper, of Fairfield, has been charged with felony theft  in Edwards County Circuit Court.

Harper turned herself at the Wayne County Jail Thursday afternoon, posted $5,000 cash bail and is now awaiting an as yet undetermined court date.

She resigned her position with the Edwards County Senior Citizens Center in December of 2010.

Harper surrendered at the Wayne County Jail Thursday afternoon, posted the $5,000 cash bail and was released, pending her first appearance in court. That has not yet been set.
