A Shawneetown man has pleaded guilty in United States District Court  to a one count indictment charging him with possession of pseudoephedrine, knowing it would be used to manufacture a controlled substance.  George A. Bivins, 38, of Shawneetown, Illinois, plead guilty at Benton, IL.  The violation took place from in or about January 2010, to in or about June 2, 2011 in Saline County.

After his plea, Bivins was remanded to custody pending his sentencing hearing which is set for 2:00 p.m., January 5, 2012, at Benton.

Bivins admitted to the court that he would obtain pseudoephedrine pills for use in manufacturing methamphetamine. The offense carries with it a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.00, or both. Any term of imprisonment must be followed by a term of not more than three years of supervised release.

This investigation was conducted jointly by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Illinois State Police and the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force Offices.
