SE Illinois hospitals receive grants from Komen for the Cure

The Evansville Tri-State Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded nineteen grants today totaling $516,810 including several that will go to southeast Illinois hospitals for breast cancer treatment and prevention programs for those in need.

Among the recipients was Fairfield Memorial Hospital Association and its “Pass on the Promise” program which received $6,847.  This project will provide screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds to patients in White, Wayne, Edwards and Fairfield Counties.  It will also provide breast health awareness education and incorporates mobile mammography to greater impact the communities.

Motorcycle rider critical after Wayne County accident

 

A Fairfield motorcycle rider was seriously injured late Monday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck.

Illinois State Police say 40-year-old Chester R. Totten was traveling westbound on IL Route 15 approaching Wayne County Road 1625E (Petroleum Boulevard) when the red Chevy pickup driven by Robbie L. Bullard, 46, of Fairfield, pulled out in front of him.

Totten’s cycle struck the passenger side of the truck.

He was taken to Fairfield Memorial, then airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he is in critical condition.

Kathy Clayton new CFO of Fairfield Memorial Hospital

Fairfield (IL) Memorial Hospital has hired Kathy Clayton as the new Chief Financial Officer.  Clayton comes to Fairfield with 28 years of experience from a Critical Access Hospital facility at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN.

“After 28 years in the same facility, I was ready for a change with new challenges.  I enjoy the hospitality of a small community and when I saw this opportunity present itself, I knew it would be the perfect place to transition to,” Clayton said.

Clayton has worked in many business areas of a hospital and began her career in Admitting, transferred to the Business Office, promoted to Staff Accountant, and continued to professionally advance to the Chief Financial Officer position.  During her tenure as part of the administrative team at Perry County Memorial Hospital, FMH says she assisted in planning a new $50 million hospital and lead the finalization of a $40 million loan for the facility.

Lane restrictions on Wabash Toll Bridge next week

 

The Indiana Department of Transportation is announcing there will be temporary lane restrictions on the State Road 62 Wabash Memorial Toll Bridge next week. 

Starting on Monday, April 22, bridge inspection teams will be completing their bi-annual inspection of the structure.  This work is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time each day through Wednesday, April 24, weather permitting.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Wabash River at New Harmony.

Heavy rainfall from Thursday along with rises along the mainstream of the Wabash further to the north will continue to push water levels up.

At 11:30 a.m. Friday, the river stage was 13.1 feet.  The river is expected to rise above flood stage by early Saturday afternoon and continue to rise to near 20 ½ feet by Sunday and it could go higher.

Bowling tournament raises money for tornado victim scholarship fund

 

Ross Cottom Lanes played host to the inaugural Jaylynn Ferrell Bowling Tournament, bringing in $1,765 to the scholarship fund established in honor of the SIC nursing program alum who perished in the 2012 Leap Day Tornado.

Sixteen teams totaling 64 bowlers participated in the event, which was a 9-pin no tap for the men and an 8-pin no tap for the women.
