Southern IL man killed when pickup hits semi

 

A 65-year-old southern Illinois man was killed early Monday morning  when his pickup truck ran into a semi in Wayne County.

Illinois State Police say the semi was on U.S Rte 45 south of Jeffersonville around 5:30 a.m.  The driver, 49-year-old Ronald Trent McKinney of Bluford, had come to a stop in the roadway and was attempting to back into an oil lease road on the east side of U.S. Rte 45.  Troopers say the truck was blocking both lanes of U.S Rte 45.

Mt. Carmel playground for children with disabilities to be dedicated Saturday

 

The City of Mt. Carmel is dedicating the new playground for children with disabilities this coming Saturday May 4 at 9 a.m.

The public is invited to come and see this 3,200 square-foot playground addition to the City of Mt. Carmel Park, located on Park Road.

City officials say it is the only the playground devoted to children with disabilities in the Tri-State area.

Wabash County fire departments spent Sunday evaluating  new technology to improve their firefighting capabilities in rural areas of the county. Henry Lovett, Jr.,  Product Manager from TurboDraft Fire Eductor used the pond at Beall Woods State Park to demonstrate how to hook up several hundred feet of hose to the device and quickly pump up to 670 gallons per minute to fight fires. Allendale, Bellmont, and Mount Carmel fire departments are contemplating procuring Turbodrafts in the near future.

The Wabash and White Rivers are starting to recede on Sunday night, but along with that, officials say, comes some health concerns.

Power back on in Mt. Carmel and Wabash County

WABASH CO, IL (WFIE)- The power should be back on in Wabash County, Illinois after several reports of outages late Thursday night.

Mt. Carmel Public Utility's vice president of operations, Larry Horrall, tells 14 News floodwaters caused a power pole to fall.

Power was off for one hour to approximately 5,000 households before Company officials were able to by-pass the problem by re-routing power.

Ridgway man gets 10 years for growing over 100 pot plants

 

A 36-year-old Gallatin County man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for growing over 100 marijuana plants and conspiring with others to do so, announced Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Paul Reynolds of Ridgway previously pled guilty to a two-count indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury.
